Woman to Woman was one of Israel’s first professional enterprises to contend with the issue of domestic violence. The Association was established in 1982 with the aim of helping women who had suffered abuse at the hands of their partners, irrespective of age, origin, nationality or education, and to provide support for their children who had grown up in the shadow of violence and had been harmed by it either directly or indirectly.
The Association provides the women and their children with direct, immediate and ongoing therapy by means of the various programs it operates: the residential Jerusalem Shelter for Battered Women, the on-site Children’s Center, legal aid, the Halfway Housing program, and community reintegration for women going on to independent living.
From the outset, Woman to Woman took a pioneering role in raising social awareness in Israel to family violence and contributed greatly to public consciousness and governmental policy changes.
Every day, some 30 women and their children are helped by the Shelter and the follow-up programs – about 90 families in the course of each year. Assistance is offered without discrimination on the basis of race, nationality, religion or economic situation.
Woman to Woman is a non-profit organization under the supervision and partial funding of the Ministry of Labor, Welfare and Social Services, and is an active member in the forum of Associations Operating Shelters in Israel.
